Research Activities
The group's efforts can be divided into two major categories: particle
theory and string theory.
- Particle theory research is concerned with the standard model and possible deviations from, and extensions to, it. The group has worked on electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetry, grand unification,
perturbative QCD, cosmology, and methods to test the standard model in current and future experiments.
- The string theory group works on string theory, quantum gravity, conformal field theory, quantum groups, topological field theory and the foundations of quantum mechanics.
Seminars
The group hosts two main seminars:
- Particle Seminars are at 2:30pm on Mondays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.
- String Seminars are at 3:40pm on Tuesdays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.
There are also two informal seminars:
- 4D Seminars are informal lunch talks, at 12:30pm on Wednesdays in the INPA Conference Room (50-5026) at LBL.
- String Group Meetings are informal meetings at 3:10pm on Wednesdays in Room 402 in Old LeConte on Campus.

Job Openings
The LBNL Theory Group and the Center for Theoretical Physics at UC
Berkeley operate as a single group, with a research program including
particle physics, cosmology, and string theory.
The Theory Group is searching for a Divisional Fellow, a five-year
appointment which is the LBNL analogue of a tenure track junior
faculty position. See our
announcement for more information and instructions on how to apply.
The Berkeley Center for Theoretical Physics (BCTP) is also searching for postdocs with appointments to begin in Fall 2010. For further information, please see the announcement at BCTP Postdoctoral Fellowhips 2010.
The Theory Group has been awarded a Simons Foundation Fellowship. For further information, please see Simons Foundation Fellowship.
LBNL is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to
the development of a diverse workforce.
