Langlands Meeting on Friday, December 03, 2004
Time: 3:10pm,Place: 430 Birge Hall.
Quantizing compact D-branes
Abstract:
In the previous meeting we discussed the compactification
of type-IIA string theory on ALE spaces that are deformations of
R^4/Z_n. I reviewed the conjecture of
Witten in
hep-th/9503124
that Super-Yang-Mills gauge theory with gauge group
SU(n+1) appears nonperturbatively.
I mentioned the connection between gauge particles (W-bosons)
and wrapped membranes, but I haven't explained why these
are vector-particles and, in cases more general than ALE spaces,
how to determine which membrane topologies are relevant.
I will tie these loose ends in this meeting.
