Title: 2D U(1) Chiral gauge theory on a computer

Abstract: I will discuss general U(1) gauge theories in 2D compactified on S^1 in Hamiltonian formalism. The physical states are constructed, and matrix elements of the Hamiltonian are computed. The theory is formulated in the continuum, so chiral symmetries are exact and chiral anomalies and the expected dependence on the theta term are reproduced exactly. The Hamiltonian can be approximately diagonalized on a computer by truncating the Hilbert space (Hamiltonian truncation). We show the first ever numerical results for the 345 model, which agree with the exact solution. The methods used does not rely on bosonization, and there is no obstacle in principle in applying these methods to non-Abelian gauge theories and/or higher dimensions, although computational costs increase rapidly.
