Nayara Fonseca (DESY): Higgs, Relaxion, and Dark Matter

Seminar Organizer

Event Details

The relaxion idea is a new mechanism proposed to naturally generate a small electroweak scale. It relies on the scanning of the Higgs mass parameter by a new field, the relaxion, and a back-reaction mechanism that is triggered when the Higgs vacuum expectation value has reached the size of the electroweak scale, making the relaxion evolution stop. In this talk, I will focus on the scenarios in which the relaxion stopping mechanism is provided by particle production friction. First, I will discuss the allowed parameter space where relaxation can take place after inflation. In the second part, I will highlight a connection between the relaxion solution to the hierarchy problem and the dark matter sector, showing that the relaxion itself can be a phenomenologically viable dark matter candidate.
