Abstract: We introduce and solve a new family of two-dimensional string theories obtained by coupling Liouville CFT to Runkel-Watts CFT. In the landscape of two-dimensional strings, the Runkel-Watts string bridges the complex Liouville string, A-series minimal string, and Virasoro minimal string. By taking an appropriate limit of the complex Liouville string, we derive an all-genus formula for Runkel-Watts string amplitudes and … Read More

Abstract:  Despite extensive work on supersymmetric black holes in 4d flat space, there is no direct microstate counting from D-brane quantum mechanics in regimes described by Einstein gravity. We derive an exact formula counting BPS black holes in N=8 supergravity arising from type II string theory compactified on T^6, by working in a regime of a small background B-field on the T^6 … Read More

Abstract:I will describe a new double-scaled matrix integral for the S-matrix of the c=1 string. This leads to a triality between two-dimensional string theory, its old one-dimensional matrix quantum mechanics dual, and a zero-dimensional matrix integral. The matrix integral is derived from the recently constructed complex Liouville string. This construction connects recent developments in minimal strings and their applications to … Read More

Abstract: In holography, analytically continued finite temperature correlation functions exhibit a “t_c singularity” whose bulk origin is a null geodesic “bouncing off” the black hole singularity. In this talk, I will describe how certain quantum corrections modify the t_c singularity in two-dimensional dilaton gravity. In particular, the backreaction of this bouncing geodesic on the geometry smooths out the t_c singularity. … Read More

Abstract: Many supersymmetric CFTs possess a continuous space of vacua, known as a moduli space. A long-standing open problem is to determine whether a CFT has a moduli space using only its CFT data, without relying on a Lagrangian description. In this talk, we make progress on this question. First, assuming a continuous global symmetry is spontaneously broken on the … Read More
