The multi-scale structure of gauge theories at colliders
Abstract: The thorough search for new-physics phenomena at particle
colliders relies deeply on increasingly precise theoretical
calculations of complex observables that depend on multiple
scales. The development of computational techniques in quantum field
theories has so far met the demands of the experiments. However, a
number of outstanding theoretical challenges have started to emerge in
connection with the unprecedented precision of the upcoming data. In
this talk, I will discuss some critical aspects of our current
understanding of the structure of multi-scale problems such as the
production of electroweak final states and of QCD jets. I will then
present novel developments that will allow us tackle some of the
future challenges in QCD perturbation theory and beyond.
