Particle Theory Seminar | James Unwin (U. Illinois) “Dark Matter Halos Around Primordial Black Holes”

Seminar Organizer

Event Details

-Cosmology may give rise to appreciable populations of both particle dark matter and primordial black holes (PBH) with the combined mass density providing the observationally inferred value of the dark matter abundance today. I will highlight that dark matter particles will generically form halos around the PBH and describe the form of these halos for different scenarios. I will then outline how annihilations in the PBH halo lead to strong constraints on this scenario from searches for both galactic and extragalactic γ-rays, and discuss how these constraints differ depending on whether the dark matter annihilation cross section is velocity dependent or velocity independent.
